Why Pack Light?
Packing carry-on only isn't just about saving on baggage fees (though that helps). It's about freedom. No waiting at baggage claim. No lost luggage. No dragging a heavy suitcase through cobblestone streets.
The Carry-On Only Checklist
Clothes (for a 1-2 week trip)
- 3-4 t-shirts/tops (quick-dry, neutral colors)
- 1 long-sleeve layer
- 1 light jacket or hoodie
- 2 pants/shorts
- 5-7 underwear
- 3-4 pairs of socks
- 1 outfit for nice dinners
- Swimsuit (if applicable)
Shoes
- 1 pair of comfortable walking shoes
- 1 pair of sandals/flip-flops
Tip
Wear your bulkiest items on the plane. Your jacket and heaviest shoes don't count as carry-on when you're wearing them.
Toiletries
- Travel-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash
- Toothbrush + toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Sunscreen
- Any medications
Tech
- Phone + charger
- Universal power adapter
- Portable battery pack
- Earbuds/headphones
Documents
- Passport
- Travel insurance details
- Copies of important documents (digital + paper)
Pro Packing Tips
- Roll, don't fold — Rolling clothes saves space and reduces wrinkles
- Use packing cubes — Game changer for organization
- Wear your heaviest outfit on travel days
- Pack for 3-4 days, do laundry — Most hostels and Airbnbs have laundry
- One bag philosophy — If you can't carry everything comfortably, you've packed too much
